Insurance Defense

The firm regularly represents insurance companies’ insureds who have been sued under various policy provisions including automobile liability, comprehensive general liability and professional liability policies. The firm also represents insurance companies who are named defendants in civil matters.

 

The firm also represents plaintiffs in multiple types of civil actions, including but not limited to personal injury, worker’s compensation, and breach of contract.

 

Family Law

Members have for more than 40 years represented parties in domestic relations matters, including divorce, child custody, child support and other modification proceedings.

 

Municipal

The firm has served as City Attorney for the City of Auburn since 1972. Representing Auburn involves working with each municipal department and all aspects of City government including general counsel, municipal finance, human resources, contracts and bid law issues, planning and litigation. The firm also provides municipal prosecution services to the City of Auburn for Municipal Court and Municipal appeal cases in the Circuit Court of Lee County.

 

Workers Compensation

The firm represents both institutional clients and injured individuals in workers’ compensation litigation. Matt White dedicates much of his practice to this area of law. Matt handles workers’ compensation litigation for the City of Auburn and also represents individual claimants in workers’ compensation matters. Matt also frequently advises businesses on workers’ compensation issues.

 

Personal Injury

The firm has regularly represented clients in the full spectrum of personal injury litigation, including automobile accidents, truck accidents, slip and fall accidents and construction accidents. The firm has proudly represented both plaintiffs and defendants in these types of cases.

 

Real Estate

The firm employs two real estate paralegals whose time is exclusively spent on real estate matters. The firm has utilized the services of the same abstractor for the past several years who assists us in examining courthouse records and compiling chains of title in a number of counties in Alabama. Primarily our real estate practice has been in the Counties of Lee, Macon, Russell, Chambers, Tallapoosa, Barbour, Bullock, Montgomery, Elmore and Pike, although we occasionally have transactions in other counties.

 

Mediation and Arbitration Services

Phil Adams has been a registered mediator in the State of Alabama and has served as mediator in more than 1,600 civil cases filed in 60 of Alabama’s 67 counties. Although Mr. Adams travels statewide, the firm offers excellent facilities to lawyers and parties at its Opelika office to conduct mediations in house.

 

School Law

The firm has represented the Auburn City School Board of Education for 25 years. Counsel is provided in the areas of teacher tenure law, contract negotiations, student disciplinary actions, special education and Fair Dismissal Act inquiries.

 

Banking

Since 1978 the firm has served as general counsel to the Auburn University Federal Credit Union. It also serves as counsel to AuburnBank, Aliant Bank, Keystone Bank, Community Bank & Trust and Southern States Bank.

 

Motions and Appeals

The firm has a depth of experience in the motions and appeals practice area. Two of its lawyers clerked on the Alabama Supreme Court and one of its lawyers served as a law clerk for Judge Ira DeMent, III for the Middle District of Alabama and as the staff attorney for United States Circuit Judge Joel F. Dubina, presiding Judge of the Eleventh Circuit Court of Civil Appeals. In addition to handling the firm’s own motions and appeals, Christine Dean and Blake Oliver regularly draft motions and handle appeals for other law firms.
